Service Opportunities

Winfield First United Methodist Church builds bridges by administering and supporting critical mission work. Our members live out their call to mission work and service by giving back to the community in which we live and work. While we’d love to have you worship with us on Sunday, church membership is not necessarily a requirement for volunteering.

Volunteer for any of these ministries by completing the form below or by calling the church office  at (620)221-2700. We’d love to help you discover how you can build bridges too!

Building Bridges in the Community

Tuesday Table

Every Tuesday, we operate commodity-based soup kitchen to provide a hot, to-go meal to an average of 200 people a week in our community.  Volunteers of all strengths and abilities can serve 1-2 hour shifts once a month or once a week – you choose!  Help prepare, pack or serve the meal, or help take inventory, pick up and organize supplies.
Email winfieldtuesdaytable@gmail.com to volunteer.

Helping Hands Ministry

Cowley County residents experiencing financial challenges with utilities, rent, and gas for medical appointments come to the church to be helped by this important ministry.  Volunteers return calls from individuals needing assistance, call the city to help pay for utilities using ministry funds, and help interview clients.  The time commitment varies and can be as much as one day a week or on stand-by when a back-up is needed.  Volunteer work is organized by a paid team leader.

Medical Loan Closet

While this ministry is not located within the church, Winfield First United Methodist Church supports its administration and serves as the contact point for the ministry. Located at 501 Harter, the Medical Loan Closet offers walkers, wheelchairs, commodes and shower chairs to those who find themselves in need and cannot afford to purchase one on their own. The equipment is checked out on loan.

Building Bridges within our Congregation

Usher/Welcome Team

As an usher, you are in charge of handing out programs and providing a friendly greeting to our members and those who are visiting us for the first time. Ushers and greeters are especially important to visitors with young children, helping them find the nursery, quiet spaces and activity bags for use during the service. Ushers count the number of people who are in attendance and provide assistance at the welcome center after the service to greet people as they leave the service and help anyone who is new to get more information.

Tech Help

Do you have a talent for all things electronic? Come hang out in the church balcony with Jordan! You can help run sound, media or streaming during the service.

Sunday School Teacher/Small Group Leader

Being a leader of a small group is a perfect way to help church members of all ages grow in their faith! Resources are available in the church library or by ordering through the church office. You will be in charge of leading a group of individuals each Sunday in a topic of your choice. Team up with a friend and make it a group effort.

Church Nursery Volunteer

We are always on the lookout for good people who have a way with very young children. The church nursery operates primarily on Sunday morning between 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Two volunteers work together to play with the kids, help them learn a Bible story and/or help them make a Bible themed craft. Resources are provided and the church has two beautiful nurseries full of toys and opportunities for fun learning about the Bible. The church library also has an extensive children’s section full of great books.
